Worship This Week:
You will notice that the liturgical colour this Sunday has been changed from Purple to Rose. The Fourth Sunday in Lent is also known as Laetare Sunday with its name taken from the first few words of the traditional Latin entrance verse (Introit) for the Mass of the day. "Laetare Jerusalem" ("Rejoice, O Jerusalem") from Isaiah 66:10. The rose colour offers us a sense of refreshment from the overall penitential tone of Lent. In some countries (UK, Ireland and some commonwealth countries), this Sunday is also Mothering Sunday - a day honouring mother churches, the church where one is baptised and becomes "a child of the church". The observance has since evolved into a celebration of all mothers (like Mother's Day in Canada and the US). We shall honour these various strands of tradition this Sunday by re-introducing a Processional Hymn that honours the mother nature of God.
Holy Week Services
The glory of Easter is the heart of the Christian gospel. It is the centre of the Church's faith and worship. As followers of Jesus, you are asked to participate as fully as you can in the liturgies of the Holy Week. Faithfully being present at the liturgy during Holy Week is to undertake a journey like no other. Observe Holy Week, make the journey as an intentional act of love, faithfulness and sacrifice. Simply being present at the liturgies and giving yourself to them is to become an active participant in the drama; a drama that is not a mere re-telling of our story, but a making present of the mystery of the passion and resurrection; a re-creation, re-formation and restoration of ourselves and the world.
